If you are talking steps....it is closer to the beach then the Catalina (even though the Catalina is beachfront property). I know is sounds confusing. Emas is about 1/2 block from the beach and it is realitivly flat land unlike the uphill Catalina. We found the beach much more assesable. Also, we liked how well kept Emas is compared to the Catalina (sorry Catalina fans) but we had tons of bugs in our room and it was dirty. The owners of Emas were always around taking care of the grounds and keeping the pool clean...when at the Catalina we never seen anyone working and trying to improve. Although we enjoyed the staff very much at the Catalina!!! and the food and the sunset bar are wonderful....it was not for us. We will go back to Emas anyday.
