Yes, it is similar to a blue plate special. It is generally served at gringo lunch time. Usually it is something chicken or something beef, or a choice of the two. One of my favorite meals in Mexico, inevitably flavorful and delicious, as it is generally one of those meals that gets better the longer it simmers on the stove. In Zihuatanejo, we always stop at Fonda Paloma in the Central Market for this treat, which is served there with handmade tortillas. With a big glass of freshly squeezed orange juice...died and gone to heaven! There's no trick to ordering it. Just ask for comida corrida con pollo (chicken) or res (beef)...or whatever is posted as available. Usually Richard orders the pollo and I get the res, then we share. Too fabulous! Fonda Paloma is always very neat and extremely clean. The women who work there are exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
