We arrived in Ixtapa on Thursday March 30, 2006. We got settled into room 501 at the NH Krystal Hotel. The hotel was nice and our room was pretty nice too. We were on the back corner (away from the construction). We could easily see the ocean to the left and also the golf course to the right. We did have to reserve palapas each day at the Krystal, but there was no charge.

That night we ate at Da Giuseppe. This is an Italian Restorante-Bar that is outside, in front of the Dorado Hotel. My husband and I were not impressed. We had the buffet as it was part of a “Thank You” dinner for traveling down to Ixtapa for a friends wedding. I would not recommend the buffet. I am assuming that individual items off the menu might be better, but I can’t confirm that.

The next day we had breakfast at The Golden Cookie Shop. This was great. I had a pretty typical American breakfast…eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. It was great. I also had the Orange Baby smoothie. I would recommend that. My husband had chorizo and scrambled eggs in tortillas. He really liked it.

After breakfast we walked around town and went to the flea market. We found a drum and maracas for our son.

Lunch was at Debrah’s Chili Bean. We really liked this place. The servers were so friendly. We each had a chili cheese dog. I know…typical American food, but it was so good. My husband really liked it! We stopped for gelato afterwards. I had Chocolate.

Dinner was at Laguna. I had the coconut shrimp and my husband had the lobster. Both were great. Our friends had filet mingon and a pasta dish. The pasta was terrible (the sauce tasted horrible), but the filet was great. We stopped for Fagolino gelato on the way back to our resort. I had the ceresa (cherry).

Breakfast on Saturday was at Chili Beans. I had the banana pancakes and a banana smoothie. Both were great. My husband had a chorizo dish that he really liked.

Lunch was at Ruben’s. We both had cheese burgers. They were fantastic. The thing that I liked best was that they has shredded cabbage instead of lettuce. The taste was great!! We also shared an order of French fries. They tasted like McDonald’s and the serving was big enough for at least three to four adults. Great service here too. We had gelato again…noticing a trend here?

Dinner was at the Krystal because of our friends wedding. The food was FANTASTIC. We had a Mexican Fiesta and I would recommend to anyone looking for a destination wedding to have it at the Krystal. My friend could not say enough nice things about the coordinator there. Everything went smoothly and again, the food was awesome.

The next morning we went to the Marina for breakfast. I cannot remember the name of the restaurant. I want to say Beccofino’s, but I am not sure. I think it is the only place that is open for breakfast. The food was really good. I had the French toast and my husband had the egg’s benedict. I think the French toast was better than the benedict. The French toast came with an orange sauce that complimented the cinnamon-sugar coating on the French toast. The fresh squeezed OJ was really good too. The best part of breakfast was that we saw a crocodile. We walked back to our resort on the beach.

Lunch was at Frank’s. We met Frank. He was incredibly nice and cute too. He had his little boy with him. What a cutie…he has blond curls. Anyway, lunch was really good. I had chicken tacos con queso and guacamole. YUMMY!!!!

We had dinner at Carlos and Charlie’s. I had the chicken enchiladas and my husband had the taco platter. Both were great. We then walked back towards our resort for drinks at Frank’s because it was opening night for baseball. My husband is a huge fan. Frank’s was really busy. We told him that we were there just for drinks. He told us to take a table anyway. We had a great time despite the rain out. We of course stopped for ice cream at Fragolino for dessert.

Our last morning was Monday…we had breakfast at Chili Beans again. I had the blueberry pancakes and a banana smoothy. You get three pancakes and they are huge and fluffy. I can only eat one. This dish could easily be shared. The food was great and again so was the service.

Overall we had a fantastic time in Ixtapa. We didn’t have enough time to explore as we were only there for 3 full days. We spent a lot of time at our resort with our friends that were there for the wedding. The sun was more intense than I expected. I got fried even with a 30 SPF. We were at the pool most of the time. We had to go down at 7 am to get a chair for the day because there were a lot of spring breakers in town. The water in the ocean was pretty rough. Black flags everyday. The waves were pretty big and the undertow could really take you down. All in all I would love to go back to Ixtapa!!!
