Just returned from a fabulous ten days in Zihua and can honestly say it's one of the best places we've been. We stayed at Casa Kau-Kan on Playa Larga beach and would highly recommend it if you really want to "get away from it all". The best of service and food and only steps from the beach. As far as restuarants go in Zihua, we found the food at both Kau-Kan and Il Mare excellent and the view and service both above our expectations. Highly recommend both places. Also ate at Tamales Atoles Any and Dona Licha for traditional Mexican food. A great highlight of the trip was meeting Juan Millim cab #485 for a tour to Petatlan and the archeological site at La Chole. Call him and you won't be disappointed cell # 7551016255 and tell him Mr. Wilson sent you. He'll treat you right. Spent one day fishing with Captain Arturo on Whisky 3 and after wading through all the BS one gets trying to figure out who to fish with, was really happy with his service. It's really too bad all the so called experts can't get along a little better and maybe the clients would be able to make more informed choices as to who to fish with. Anyway, that's another story. We spent the day at Barra de Potosi and quite frankly was not that impressed. Seemed to me like just another busy little beach with an abundance of enmaradas. Another tip-be sure to get the price from the cab drivers before you get in the car. We paid from 60 pesos up to 150 pesos for the same trip to Zihua or back to Playa Larga so be sure you know what you're going to pay before you go and don't be shy about telling the driver you think it's too much BEFORE you get in. All in all, I believe the people of Zihua to be some of the nicest in Mexico and they certainly go out of their way to help you. My recommendations are to stay at Casa Kau-Kan and enjoy the 9 mile uncrowded beach at Playa Larga and go on the city tour with Juan. He can usually be found parked down by the basketball court and has the words CITY TOUR on the windshield of his cab. Ask to meet Ricardo(the chef & owner) of restuarant Kau-Kan and Fernando (the chef) at Il Mare when you go there. They appreciate your input. Thanks to all who answered questions on this board and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
